Assumptions behind this estimate
This is a preliminary estimate from a flat image, not an exact or production-ready count. The final stitch count can be different after professional digitizing, once stitch direction, density, underlay and object order are set for your fabric.

How the estimate is worked out.
The tool combines what it can measure in your image with your answers about size, fabric and stitch style.
1. Measuring the artwork
Your browser separates the design from its background, then measures how much area is covered, how wide each line and shape is, how many colors and separate shapes there are, and whether there's lettering or an outer border.
2. Assigning stitch types
At your chosen size, thin lines are treated as running stitch, narrow shapes and lettering as satin columns, and larger areas as tatami fill. Each type has its own typical density.
3. Adding what you can't see
Underlay, a border that isn't in the artwork, fill hidden under overlapping shapes, tie-ins, trims and color changes are added separately. Each is sized for the job instead of a flat percentage.

What this tool can't tell you
- A flat PNG or JPG doesn't show how a digitizer would split the design into objects, which direction stitches run, the underlay or which shapes sit on top of others. Those are assumptions, and they're shown with every result.
- Lettering is detected from the shapes of the artwork. The tool can tell that something looks like a row of letters and how tall it is, but it doesn't read the text.
- The area covered in your image isn't exactly the area covered in thread. Small details may be simplified or enlarged when digitized.
- No image analysis can give an exact stitch count. That only exists once the design has been digitized.
- The model is fitted on more than 100 of our own digitized designs. Each one was tested with a version of the model that had never seen it: the middle value was within 10% for half of them and within 20% for about 8 in 10; about half landed inside the tight most-likely range and about 8 in 10 inside the wider range. Designs with many overlapping layers (for example a mascot on top of large outlined letters) tend to come out higher than estimated.

Stitch count questions.
Why does stitch count matter?
Stitch count drives machine run time, thread use and, often, the digitizing and production price. It also tells you whether a design is too dense for a thin fabric.
Why is the estimate a range and not one number?
Two digitizers can make the same logo with noticeably different stitch counts depending on density, underlay and how they build each shape. A range is the honest answer before a file exists.
Do you keep my design?
Only after you unlock your result. The artwork is measured in your browser and the measurements are sent to our server to work out the estimate. When you enter your name and email to see it, we keep a reduced copy of the design (up to 1500 pixels) together with the estimate details. We use these only to study and improve our estimates. They are never shared or sold, and we delete them if you ask at info@conception360.com.
How accurate is it?
It's a planning tool. Tested on more than 100 of our own finished designs (each predicted without having seen it), the middle value was within 10% for half of them and within 20% for about 8 in 10. You get a tight most-likely range (about ±12%), a middle value and a wider range that covers about 8 in 10 designs. Clean logos with clear edges give the most reliable results; photos, shaded artwork and heavily layered designs are harder.
How do I get the exact count?
Ask for a quote. Once your design is digitized, the stitch count is listed with your file and thread chart.
